September 14, 2009Septic System Pumped Today
August 21, 2009Got my septic tanks pumped today. I say tanks because I have 3 of them. A mound system. Two holding tanks and a pumping chamber. I had the pump in the pumping chamber go out on me this past winter. It had to be pumped out and the pump replaced. It cost a fortune. I’m just glad it wasn’t me down in that tank. I think it cost around $700 total. “Weiler Inc Plumbing-Heating-Ac” did a fine job. Their phone number: (219) 462-5985.
But today I had the other 2 tanks pumped. A 1000gal tank and a 750gal tank. “A Midwest Sewer and Septic Tank Pumping” Did a fine job. Their phone number is: (219) 462 5608. It cost me around $300. I will use them again when I have to have it done again in two years. I feel he went the extra mile to clean out the tanks by back flushing many times. Job well done.
On a side note. You know those flushable baby wipes or the flushable wet whatevers that are supposed to be septic safe. The septic guy pulled those out in huge clumps. They were clogging up the vacuum hose. If you have a septic system, don’t flush those little bastards down the toilet. Don’t buy’em.
Cartoon Break
August 7, 2009Just a Reminder
August 4, 2009Seems this summer is going by at breakneck speed. This is a reminder to myself that I need to rebuild the carburetor on the snow blower before winter. Hopefully I’ll have some pics of the process when I do it. I also have a carburetor on a John Deer lawn tractor to rebuild. That probably won’t happen till next spring… Maybe…
Removing Dirt / Mildew
August 1, 2009I had planned on restaining the house this year but I just might not have to. What I thought was fading / darkening paint was dirt and mildew. I had borrowed a pressure washer from a neighbor to do the washing of the house. It didn’t do much if anything to help my situation. I would have to get real close to see any progress and with me having cedar siding, not a good idea. So, I read a few things on the net and came up with a solution to apply to my problem. I got a one gallon tank sprayer. The kind you use for things like deck treatments or applying weed killer. The mix I used is .25 gallon of bleach, 1 gallon of water and a few squirts of dish soap. I would soak an area and let it sit for about a minute. Then I would just spray it off with a garden hose. Worked great. Sometimes I hit an area twice but I am completely happy with the results. Here’s some pics. Click on the pics, they get much bigger.
I’m pretty happy with the results. I still have more to do. I’m going to do the whole house. Maybe I’ll paint / stain next year.
First Harvest
July 29, 2009Ok, it’s almost August and the crops are showing up. It’s been a weird summer. First thing, my cucumbers or sunflowers didn’t come up this year. Anything from seed didn’t make it. I think it was the cool wet spring. But tomatoes and peppers are good. I’ll get to scrubbing the outside of the house in preporation for painting in the next few days. Midnights last night was a killer and I’m still beat.
July 27th and summer has finally started
July 28, 2009Weirdest summer on record that I can remember. Well it finally started for me. Maybe it was the vacation. I’m going to start the painting of the house project. Tried a house wash today. It failed miserably. Tomorrow morning after work, I’m stopping and picking up a brush on a telescopic stick to hand wash the house. It’s gonna be great fun.
